Tusa Hoebo News Handwritten and Duplicated by Late Pak Yong-jun
Tusa Hoebo News was an alternative press that informed the citizens of Gwangju with the truth during the strict media control of the May 18 Democratic Uprising in May 1980. The production of Tusa Hoebo News was led by the instructors and students of Deulbul Night School, a labor night school at the time. It was duplicated on both sides of 16-fold newsprint and produced in a total of 10 issues from May 21 to 26, 1980. Unfortunately, the 10th issue was not distributed and was completely collected and destroyed by the martial law forces. Tusa Hoebo News, which contained information such as the damage situation, assembly times, and citizen action guidelines, was the only source of accurate information for the citizens. It held significant value as a medium that enabled citizens to create a voluntary Gwangju community in uncertain times.

After 41 years since the first Tusahoe News was created on May 21, 1980, Pak Yong-jun's handwriting has been revived in digital form. The Gwangju Public Policy Platform, Gwangju YWCA, Deulbul Martyrs Memorial Association, and the May 18 Memorial Foundation have created a digital font of the handwriting of the late Pak Yong-jun, who participated in the production of Tusahoe News during the May 18 Democratic Uprising, and are distributing it for free. The funds for the font production were raised through public donations, similar to how the Tusa Hoebo News was meticulously handwritten and duplicated. Although many participated in the handwriting of Tusa Hoebo News, the existing materials prominently feature Pak Yong-jun's handwriting. The Pak Yong-jun Tusa Hoebo Font embodies the spirit of Gwangju that he strived to convey through his painstakingly written bulletins. The font allows us to recall the memories of that day.
